For several years, WIHAG has been striving to reduce energy consumption within the company in order to fulfill its social responsibility to mitigate climate change. To this end, WIHAG has been working with the energy consulting company c-ober since 2021. As a first step, measures were implemented to quickly reduce energy consumption: for example, the lighting was switched to LEDs and the company's own compressed air system was optimized.
In a second step, a solar system was purchased to cover part of the electricity consumption. This will make it possible to cover the base load with green electricity; another important step towards climate-neutral production in Stadtilm.
Support is being provided by the Thüringer Aufbaubank, a strong partner in the region for the implementation of sustainable and future-oriented investment projects, as part of the European Regional Development Fund.
The go-ahead for the solar plant will be given this year. WIHAG will take a major leap towards sustainability with the system and implement further measures to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels.
